Robert Burson

ATHENS - Robert Lee Burson, 81, of Athens, passed away, Saturday morning, April 26, 2008 at his home. Born December 25, 1926 in Athens, he was the son of the late Lucius C. Burson Sr. and Mildred Shields Burson. Bob graduated from Shade High School and earned his BA and MA degrees from Ohio University where he played basketball and was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity. After serving in the US Army in WWII, he returned to ATHENS -here he taught school and held the position of ATHENS -ity Recreation Director. His coaching career lasted 50 years. Bob was a member of the First United Methodist Church, ATHENS -merican Legion Post 21 and the Retired Teachers Association. Bob is survived by his wife, Linda; two sons, Mark (Marie) Burson of Columbus, Scott (Susie) Burson of Huntington, Indiana; five grandchildren; a brother, Herbert (Pauline) Burson of McArthur and Sun City, Florida; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Lucius "Duke& (Juan) Burson, Jr.; and his sister, Doris Burson. Services will be Friday at 11:00 Am at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home with Rev Mary Jo Yeakel officiating. Burial will be in West Union Street Cemetery.
