ATHENS - Doris Ann Burson, age 82 of Athens, OH, passed away Monday, February 25, 2008, at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, OH. Born March 9, 1925, in Athens, she was the daughter of the late Lucius C. Burson, Sr. and Mildred Shields Burson. Doris attended schools in Glouster and ATHENS and graduated from Beverly High School near Belpre. She was a 1947 graduate of White Cross Hospital School of Nursing. In her professional career as a registered nurse in the U.S. Navy Corps, she served in twenty-five states in numerous stateside Naval Hospitals and several foreign countries including overseas duty in Da Nang, Viet Nam and Guantanama Bay, Cuba. She retired with the rank of Lieutenant Commander in 1978. Following her retirement, she compiled an extensive genealogy of the Burson family of ATHENS county, which was published in 2000. Doris is survived by her brother Herbert (Pauline) Buron of McArthur and Sun City FL, Robert (Linda) Burson of Athens, and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. Besides her parents, Doris was preceded in death by brother Lucius (Duke) (Juan) Burson Jr. Services will be held Saturday, March 1st at 10:30 AM at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home in ATHENS -ith Rev. Mary Jo Yeakel officiating. Burial will be in the West Union Street Cemetery where military services will be conducted by the ATHENS -FW, The Albany VFW, and ATHENS -merican Legion.
