ATHENS - Frieda B. Shields, 88, of Athens, died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2008 at Fairfield Medical Center. Born Jan. 26, 1919 in Athens, she was the daughter of the late Lewis Frances and Ella Louise Wilson Gloeckner. She was a member of Christ The King Catholic Church where she was a cook and was a member of Catholic Ladies of Columbia. She also had been a cook for McBeechr(39)s Guest House and several sororities. She is survived by a son, Charles Francis Shields of Las Vegas, NV; two grandchildren, Stephanie Vineyard of Laguna Niguel, CA, Curtis (JoAnn) Shields of Carlsbad, CA; four great grandchildren; three sisters, Irene (Harry) Cassey of Raleigh, NC, Rosemary (Ben) Warner of Athens, Jean Edwards of Athens; many nieces and nephews including a special niece, Candy (Mike) Goodwin of Athens; a sister-in-law, Tommey Wilson of Athens; and a special friend, Karen Vedder. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Shields; three brothers, Lewis (Bill), George, and Keith (Eddie) Gloeckner. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday at 10:30 AM at Christ The King Catholic Church with Father Marty Holler officiating. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery. Friends may call at the Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home Thursday 5 to 8 PM. There will be a Catholic Ladies of Columbia memorial service at 5:30 PM and a Vigil for the Deceased at 6:00 PM.
