<span style="font-size: 11pt">ATHENS- Jon Sparhawk, 57, of Athens, passed away unexpectedly Saturday morning, June 2, 2007. <span style="font-size: 11pt">Born July 23, 1949 in Akron, he was the son of the late Richard and Florence O'Connor Sparhawk. <span style="font-size: 11pt">He was a 1971 graduate of Ohio University, and had owned and operated the Oak Room Restaurant for the past 24 years and Toscanochr(39)s for the past 7 years. He was a member of Christ the King University Parish and Pastoral Council, Symposiarch, Founder of the ATHENS andependent Restaurant Association, Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, ATHENS county Convention and Visitors Bureau Board of Directors, Boogie on the Bricks Board of Directors, Founding Member of Dine Across America, Member of the Chamber of Commerce Promotions and Special Events Committee, Recipient of the Chamber of Commerce Small Business of the Year Award, and was one of the founders of Ohio Brew Week. He was a little league baseball coach, city rec basketball coach, President of the ATHENS High School Boosters Club, founding member of the ATHENS -outh Football Association and a very generous and long time supporter of ATHENS county athletics. He also was an avid golfer. <span style="font-size: 11pt">He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Jean; four children, Joe Sparhawk, 28, of Cincinnati; Jamie Sparhawk, 26, of Athens, twins Julie Sparhawk, 24, of ATHENS and Jason Sparhawk, 24, of Columbus; a sister, Mary (Clark) Stafford of High Point, NC; three brothers, Dick (Barb) Sparhawk of Tallmadge, Tom Sparhawk of Akron, Bill Sparhawk of North Canton; a mother-in-law, Ruth Conkey of Athens; two brothers-in-law, Gary and Brian Conkey both of Athens; and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews. <span style="font-size: 11pt">Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Jon C. Sparhawk in 1972 and his father-in-law, Vaughn E. Conkey. <span style="font-size: 11pt">Mass will be Wednesday at noon at Christ the King University Parish with Father Marty Holler officiating. <span style="font-size: 11pt"> Friends may call at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday one hour prior to the service at the church. Vigil for the Deceased will be Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
