Virginia Hoover FranklinATHENS -Virginia Hoover Franklin, 90, of Athens, died Monday morning, Nov. 6, 2006 at Hickory Creek Nursing Center.Born Jan. 16, 1916 in Athens, she was the daughter of the late Prof. Thomas N. and Ethel Arnold Hoover.She was a 1932 graduate of ATHENS High School and a graduate holding a BA and two Masters from Ohio University. She taught at Johnstown Monroe High School from 1950 1954 and retired from the Columbus School Systems in 1977.She was a Golden Arrow member for 50 years, past president of PI BETA PHI Alumni club and attended seven conventions, member of Indanola Presbyterian Church in Columbus. A member of ATHENS and Franklin County Republican Central Committee, she was elected to ATHENS -harter Convention and chosen Republican of the Year for ATHENS county in 1985. She was a member of the Green and White Club and was State Secretary of the Ohio Council of Social Studies Teachers. She was past president of Franklin County Social Studies Teachers.She is survived by two sons, Benjamin (Jo Taft) Franklin, V of Columbia , SC, Thomas Hoover (Carol) Franklin of Oldsmar, FL; four grandchildren, Mark T. (Jessica) Franklin of Reynoldsburg, J. Matthew Franklin of Columbus, Abigail (Stan) Chestnut of Berkley, CA, Rebecca (Rob) Joy of Cincinnati; six great grandchildren and a niece Susan B. York of Mill Valley, CA.Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Thomas N. Hoover.Services will be Thursday at 11:00 AM at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home with Rev. Craig Seitz officiating. Burial will be in West Union Street Cemetery.Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 4 to 7 PM.
