ATHENS -Robert E. Cooley Sr., 83 of ATHENS died Wednesday afternoon, October 4, 2006 at Kimes Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.Born December 27, 1922 in Athens, he was the son of the late Clarence and Edith Cecil Cooley.He was a 1940 graduate of ATHENS High School. He formerly owned and operated Union Printing. He was a WWII veteran serving in Pattons 3rd Army Tank Battalion and had received the purple heart. He was a member of the Central United Methodist Church for 75 years, member of the ATHENS -asonic Bodies and ATHENS county Shrine Club and was a past president. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 21, ATHENS -mvets Post 76, 40 & 8, the ATHENS -ountry Club, the OU Green and White Club and Lions Club.He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Betty; a son, Robert E. (Nannette) Cooley Jr. of Athens, and a daughter, Susan (Jeff) Bunch of Athens; three grandchildren, Brynn Cooley, Scott Bunch and Christopher Bunch.Besides his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, William, Bernard and Harold Cooley.Services will be Monday at 11 AM at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home with Paul Risler, Pastor of Central United Methodist Church officiating.
