ATHENS -Virginia Irene Shirley, 76, of ATHENS died late Saturday evening, March 26, 2005 at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus.She was born July 11, 1928 in Barnesville, Ohio and was the daughter of the late Wilbur and Freda Davis Burcher.She was a graduate of Ames-Bern High School . She formerly owned and operated the former Exon Station in ATHENS -ith her late husband.She is survived by a daughter, Carolyn Martin of The Plains; a grandson, Matthew Martin of The Plains; five brothers, Tom (Aldene) Burcher of Albany, Richard (Maryann) Burcher of Pennsville, Paul Burcher of Amesville, David (Cindy) Burcher of Amesville, and Gary (Lorie) Burcher of Glouster; and two sisters, Edith (Leonard) Gilkey of Albany and Rosemary (Mick) Hinton o f Milford Center.Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard (Dick) Shirley; a son, Stephen Phillip Shirley; brothers, Billy and James Burcher and infant brother Harry Burcher.
