ATHENS -Catherine "Kate" Phillips, 73, of Athens, passed away Thursday March 17, 2005 at Ochr(39)Bleness Memorial Hospital after an extended illness. Born March 17, 1932 in Athens, she was the daughter of the late William Richard and Agnes Doane Phillips. She was a graduate of Shade High School and began a dedicated career as a legal secretary for Atty. Parker Walker the day after her high school graduation. She was employed there for 54 years and this included work with many area attorneys. She semi-retired from Walker and Walker in the fall of 2004.She is survived by a brother, Joe (Barb) Phillips of Athens; a sister, Grace; two nieces whom she was especially close to, Kim (Scott) McClain of ATHENS and Shari (Rod Rhymer) Phillips of Amanda; five other nieces and nephews, several great nieces and nephews and cousins; and a life-long friend Ferne Jeffers Weissman of West Newton, Mass.Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Robert Phillips.Catherine was an avid reader and patron of the ATHENS -ublic Library, and in lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the library in her name at 30 Home Street, Athens, Ohio, 45701. Services will be Sunday at 2 PM at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home, ATHENS -ith Rev. H. Willard Love officiating.
