William Shumate

ATHENS - Willam H. Shumate, 84, of Athens, died Thursday, December 16, 2004 at his home.Born Nov. 10, 1920 in Oak Hill, he was the son of the late William Orsel and Edna Hughes Shumate.He was a graduate of Ohio State University and retired from the Dept. of Agriculture with 35 years of service. He was a US Navy Veteran of WWII.He is survived by his wife of 57 years Ruth; three daughters, Ellen (Jim Smith) Shumate of The Plains, Karen Barnhart of The Plains, Nancy Shumate of North Hampton, Mass; two grandchildren, Derek Barnhart of Athens, Jason Barnhart stationed in Norfolk, VA; a great granddaughter, Breah Elizabeth Barnhart; a sister, Janet Shumate of Jackson.Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother killed in WWII Robert Shumate.Graveside services will be Saturday at 11:00 AM at Oak Hill C.M. Cemetery in Oak Hill. No calling hours will be observed. Arrangements are by Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home, Athens.
