David M. Wakeland

THE PLAINS   David M. Wakeland, 64, of The Plains, died Monday, January 19, 2004, at O?Bleness Memorial Hospital, Athens. Born April 25, 1939, in Bluefield, WV, he was the son of the late Ervin J., Sr. and Juanita Milam Wakeland.David was a member of the IOE, Local 18 for over 30 years; he was a member of the ATHENS -lks Lodge #973; and a member of The Plains United Methodist Church.He is survived by his wife, Cathy DeWeese-Wakeland; two daughters, Karen (Randy) Grider of Waverly, and Sandy (Randy) Southworth of Portsmouth; six grandchildren, Kristi, Chasity, J.R., Jasmine, Tiara, and Montana; four great grandchildren; two brothers, Robert (Mona) Wakeland of Grove City; George T. (Nancy) Wakeland of Duneden, FL; three sisters, Irene Steele of Matewan, WV, Patricia (Robert) Wilson of Grove City, and Veda (Michael) Noble of Dublin; a mother-in-law and father-in-law, Murven and Rosalee DeWeese of The Plains; a brother-in-law, Kerry (Dorothy) DeWeese of The Plains; a sister-in-law, Susan Tudor of Athens; several nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, Randall S. Wakeland of Dublin, and a special niece, Scarlett Tudor of Athens.Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Ervin J. Wakeland, Jr.; a brother-in-law, Willis D. Steele; and a grandson, Isreal Freeland.Services will be held Thursday at 1:00 p.m. at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home, Athens, with Rev. David Roach officiating.  Burial will be at Zion Cemetery, The Plains.
