ATHENS – Joseph Elmer Stage, Sr., 65, of Wooster, formerly of Athens, died Tuesday, October 23, 2012 in Cleveland. Born December 14, 1946 in Athens, he was the son of the late Elmer and Gladys Norris Stage. He was a graduate of The Plains High School. He was formerly a maintenance mechanic for Fritz Wheaton and later was self employed before moving to Wooster where he was a maintenance mechanic for Gerstenslager Stamping Plant. He also enjoyed farming. He was a US Army Veteran of the Vietnam War and a Life member of VFW Post 15036, a member of Apple Creek American Legion Post 147 and a Life member of the American Motorcycle Association. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Donna Marie Stage; two children, Joseph Elmer Stage, Jr. of Wooster, Tammy Marie Stage of Wooster; a granddaughter, Alisha Ann Stage; a brother, Vernon “Bing” Stage of Marion and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Allen and David Stage. Services will be Monday at 1:00 PM at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home with Pastor Carl Radcliff officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery where Military Services will be conducted by Athens American Legion, Athens VFW and Albany VFW.
